The stability of wave disturbances in a Blasius boundary layer are studied experimentally and it is shown that under well controlled conditions the waves are only slightly modified compared to parallel flow theory. This is in contrast to previous experiments and it is shown that inappropriate leading edge conditions may have affected earlier studies as these conditions have a strong influence on the stability characteristics of Tollmien–Schlichting waves.
