Abstract

Nitrogen (N) fertilization can cause leaching problems if the amount exceeds that needed for plant growth. To estimate the leaching risk, practical solutions were needed. The authors developed an adaptation and combination of recognized methods as an extension for an OpenSource GIS. This concept and the GIS implementations offer opportunities for an ecologically-based adjustment of N fertilization.
