Abstract

The player experience is a significant parameter in evaluating the overall success of a game. It is necessary to create a game that provides: (1) satisfaction and (2) challenge. Dynamic difficulty adjustment (DDA) helps in producing interesting games. This paper focuses on improving DDA systems by introducing: (a) dynamic weight clipping, (b) differential learning and (c) adrenalin rush. Experimental results indicate that these features can implement an ideal DDA system that can engage the human player by creating equally competent opponents. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2010.
