Abstract

Diet is a factor in human performance. No amount of training or natural ability ensures peak performance without the proper fuel for the exercising muscles. A knowledge of carbohydrate, protein, and fat consumption for athletes is imperative for sports medicine professionals who work in athletic environments. Additionally, providing science-based information and recommendations regarding hydration before, during, and after exercise can help athletes perform at their peak.
