Abstract

The bioremediation process is an eco-friendly process, where the microbes are generally used for the treatment of environmental pollutants. The wastewater contains various types of pollutants including dyes, heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products, pesticides, etc. Nature can degrade many of these compounds but in a limited amount. So the artificial setups with the controlled conditions are required for removing these harmful chemicals present in the wastewater, before releasing them into the natural system. This creates the need for optimized environmental conditions which can affect the microbial degradation process. This chapter is giving information on factors affecting the growth of microbial bioremediation and about the different statistical designs of experimental methods that may help optimize the wastewater treatment process using microbes.
