Abstract

A comprehensive and comparative systemic evaluation of early, intermediate, and late toxicity associated with APBI, particularly as related to the wide variety of clinical and treatment-related technical variables that are inherent to the different treatment modalities, is yet to be performed. In this chapter, a summary is presented of the currently available information regarding toxicity after APBI employing the most commonly used techniques. Where possible, an attempt is made to distill the currently available data into specific clinical recommendations that are designed to minimize the risk of normal tissue toxicity. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
