Abstract

In this context, nutritional etiquette is imbibing eating behaviour that promotes optimum nutrition and disease prevention. The effect of inadequate nourishment of women negatively affects their ability to effectively procreate and effectively perform other functions in life. This in turn affects society in the form of poor work capacity and ill-health of their offspring. The many irreversible nutritional challenges that occur in infancy and childhood have their root cause in poor maternal nutrition. Maintaining a healthy eating pattern can reduce or prevent the risk of developing chronic diseases. Some of these eating behaviours include: eating right, which involves choosing foods that suit your age, health status, and activity level as well as food portioning; periodic self-assessment of nutritional status using anthropometry; maintenance of good hydration status at all times; and regular exercise which compliments both the health and nutritional status of an individual. Women’s adherence to nutritional etiquette will boost their work and reproductive capacities as well as prevent malnutrition and its outcomes in their offspring.
