Abstract

This paper analyzes solar P-V and I-V characteristics of different solar PV array configurations under uniform and non-uniform irradiance conditions using a single diode model. In this work Backtracking Search Optimization algorithm (BSO) based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) scheme is proposed to track maximum power of a PV module. Results are compared with Perturb and Observe (P&O) and Incremental Conductance (INC) algorithms and Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm based MPPT technique. It is observed that the proposed MPPT algorithm based on BSO tracks MPP accurately compared to P&O, INC and ABC based MPPT techniques.
