Abstract

‘Halal’ is an important concept in Islam and is unquestionably stressed in Islamic teachings. Islam provides strict foundations on the Halal requirements. The indi- cation for Halal is mentioned a few times, both in the Holy Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh). The clear directives in both Islamic main sources indicate the obligation of practising Halal consumption among Muslims. Consuming Halal goods and services is one of the objectives of Islamic Law (Maqasid Shariah), under the human necessity (dharuriyyat), specifically for the protection of self (hifz al-nafs).
