Abstract

An approximate theory for the process is derived, leading to a solution of the type P = Ct1.5√D, where P is the collapse load, t the shell thickness, D the shell diameter, and C a constant for any given material. Good agreement is exhibited between this relationship and experimental results. © 1960 Oxford University Press.
