Abstract

Anemias are the manifestation of a wide range of pathologies. The pregnancy status, due to its physiological changes, predisposes to the arising of deficiency anemias, and it can also be the scenario in which underlying pathologies are manifested-anemias present in chronic diseases, aplastic anemias, hereditary, and acquired hemolytic anemias may emerge or decompensate in this period. There is also the inherent risk of obstetric bleeding, which can lead to anemia. Therefore, this chapter addresses the most relevant anemias in pregnancy, their investigation, treatment, and implications for the mother-fetus binomial. In the end, there is a brief talk about fetal anemia.
