Abstract

Space mapping (SM) has been successfully applied in various fields of engineering and science. However, despite its potential, SM has only recently been applied in aerospace engineering. This chapter describes recent advances in aerodynamic design and optimization using SM. In particular, a detailed formulation of the optimization methodology is provided, as well as several applications involving the design of transonic airfoils and wings.
