In this essay, Theodor Adorno combines personal memories with the examination of the work of Siegfried Kracauer. He emphasizes some of its particularities, such as its anti-systematic aspect, his aversion to idealism, to specialization and conventional methods of analysis. Adorno searches the ways through which the author of The Mass Ornament could discover new objects with rare liberty.
