Abstract

The explosion of nanotechnology research has led to significant advances in many fields. In this chapter we investigate the use of metallic nanoparticles in bioanalysis applications focussing specifically on their functionalisation and characterization. These funcationalized nanoparticles can find use with a wide range of analytical techniques however we will focus primarily on their use in surface plasmon resonance and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) applications. © 2012 American Chemical Society.
