Abstract

Conventional and endoscopic approaches to the pituitary both lead to satisfactory treatment of pituitary disease, with endoscopic approaches resulting in fewer endonasal complications. A multidisciplinary approach should be utilized when treating individuals with pituitary lesions secondary to the vast array of endocrine, neurosurgical, ophthalmological and otolaryngological sequelae that arise. Patients with Cushing's disease and acromegaly require special consideration due to increased perioperative morbidity. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
