Abstract

Background: Dental veneers are a popular and effective cosmetic dentistry treatment that can improve the appearance of a person’s teeth. Veneers can be used to correct stained, cracked, chipped, or unevenly shaped teeth and close gaps between teeth. In addition, veneers can be used to protect the teeth from bruxism, which is the grinding and clenching of teeth. This article will discuss the use of dental veneers to protect teeth from bruxism and the various types of veneers available. Materials and methods: A literature search was performed using the major search engines: PubMed, Lilacs and Web of Science. The literature search was conducted independently by two researchers, and abstracts and full texts was selected and read to assess the eligibility of articles for this review. Results: Dental veneers are a popular and effective cosmetic dentistry treatment that can protect teeth from bruxism and improve the appearance of the teeth. Porcelain veneers are the most popular type; they are strong, stain-resistant, and durable. Composite veneers are less expensive but may need to be replaced more often. Conclusions: According to this research, feldspathic veneers might be an excellent clinical choice for indirect aesthetic restorations. As long as they consistently utilize an occlusal splint, patients who suffer from bruxism may also be candidates for this type of treatment. Patients with bruxism who don’t use an occlusal brace could still risk bonding failure or debonding.
