Abstract

Traditional synthesis of n-butylcyanoacrylate takes place heating n-butylcyanoacetate with paraformaldehyde in presence of toluene, acetic acid and pyperydine. Oligomers of n-butylcyanoacrylate were obtained as intermediary. They were isolated in some cases and pyrolyzed under vacuum with anionic and cationic inhibitors yielding n-butylcyanoacrylate. Traditional heating sources were used in the overall process which takes place proximately in 9 hours. The main goal of our work was the preparation of n-butylcyanoacrylate assisted by microwaves. A domestic microwave was used and the process was regulated by selecting an appropriate power. © 2013 Springer.
