Abstract

Due to the recent popularity of the Internet over the world, the Internet now becomes one of the most important communication channels for human societies in Korea. In this paper, we present a comprehensive analysis on Internet reference behaviors in the Korean Education Network (KREN), which is one of the main Internet service networks in Korea. The purpose of this paper is to present a contents analysis of Internet references as well as a formal analysis of workload characteristics. We use the proxy server logs at KREN to characterize the Internet reference behaviors. The analysis consists of three steps: 1) Web document based analysis, 2) Web server based analysis, and 3) International link based analysis. In each step of analysis, we present the distribution and top ranking subjects of references, and analyze the areas of interests that are frequently referenced by KREN users.
