Abstract

The collection of essays by scholars from the Andes, Europe and the United States reveals some of the innovative research of the last 2 decades on the unique features of the Andean landscape, the impact of the Inca states on different regions and ethnic groups, and transformations wrought through the colonial presence, and the creation of 19th-century republics. The essays originally appeared in French in the journal Annales, in a special double issue called 'The historical anthropology of Andean societies'. Six of the essays were abstracted at that time: Geo Abstracts 79D/3267, 3309-11 and 3364-5. -J.Sheail
