This paper reports on novel results derived from a computer model of a typical office work place. We demonstrate how the detailed albeit very small muscle loads can be analyzed and how the effect of two interventions can be assessed using the model. The investigations reveal that both interventions reduce the muscle loads, but a wrist cushion is the more effective intervention type for the vast majority of the muscles. It is concluded that the method can offer useful assistance for design and prescription of efficient interventions for particular ergonomic problems typical for office workers. © 2010 International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering.
