Abstract

The surgeon's image has been altered considerably throughout the past decades by social and political influences. Most important of course are the many innovations within the field of surgery. A surgeon must be capable of adapting to changes within the realm of basic concepts and operative techniques. The qualifications of the individual surgeon therefore require an invariably high standard.
