The mechanisms of dissolution of both iron-free and iron-rich pyroxenes and olivines have been studied by means of chemical analyses of reacting solutions and by the use of X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy. Dissolution is strictly a surface process and occurs by a H+ (or H3O+) exchange reaction at the surface.-from Authors
