Sesbania grandiflora is a member of the Fabaceae family and is used for the treatment of various disease conditions from ancient time. Phytochemical investigation reported that the chief bioactive components responsible for its therapeutic impact are flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, saponins, and alkaloids. Experimental studies have shown that various types of extracts from S. grandiflora displayed a broad range of valuable effects such as hypoglycemic, anticonvulsive and anxiolytic, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, antioxidant, anti-bacterial, wound healing and anthelmintic activities. The objective of the present review is to search literature for the toxicity, pharmacological and phytochemical studies of Sesbania grandiflora and the incorporated information might be useful for the scientists to concentrate on the priority area of research yet to be discovered.
