Unhealthy diets and malnutrition are among the top risk factors for the Global Burden of Disease. Diets are unhealthy due to excess consumption of sodium, unhealthy fats, free sugars, red and processed meat, but also insufficient consumption of wholegrains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, and legumes. The main forms of child malnutrition include Low Birth Weight, wasting, stunting, and overweight. For adults, the most common forms of malnutrition are overweight and obesity and micronutrient deficiencies, particularly iron deficiency. Addressing multiple forms of malnutrition requires actions in health, food and agriculture, social protection, education, trade, and the environment.
