Abstract

In this work, a series of diblock polymers were used as dispersing agents to stabilize the polystyrene particles. The method of polymerization is by anionic techniques using alkyllithiums as initiators and alkanes as the polymerization medium. This is in contrast to the large amount of work on free radical dispersion polymerization. The anionic polymerization technique coupled with dispersion polymerization has been used to give a variety of surface active polymeric particles for use as grease thickeners and organic fillers and pigments.
