Abstract

This chapter will deal with structural aspects of lipopolysaccharides, illustrating the main chemical features of each component of these tripartite molecules and the most common approaches toward elucidating the structure of each moiety. In addition, a brief description is given of lipopolysaccharides' biological activity as elicitors of innate immune systems in animals and plants. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
