Abstract

This commentary reviews the remarkable contributions made in China to the development of urban forests and to research on urban forests. It points out the significance of the Forest Law of the People's Republic of China (adopted in 1984) to the establishment of urban forests in China. Unique Chinese concepts such as Sponge Cities and Forest Cities are reviewed. Examples of the contributions of Chinese scholars to our knowledgeof urban forestry are presented.
