Abstract

Poverty reduction continues to remain an unmet goal even though it has been an important policy objective at both national and global levels. Despite rapid growth, infrastructure development and investments in health and education over a substantial period of time, an unacceptably high proportion of our population continues to suffer severe and multidimensional deprivation and remains vulnerable to losing whatever gains have been made when there are shocks to livelihoods.
