Abstract

This chapter introduces some essential theoretical concepts of psychodrama: spontaneity and creativity, tele, encounter and the theory of social networks as well as Moreno's role theory. These theories form the important constituents of psychodrama as an independent method. Each concept is presented along with a critical appraisal and examined for its significance in psychodramatic practice. The concept of surplus reality, which is often underestimated in psychodrama literature, is reconstructed as a fundamental principle of the method. Lastly, this chapter offers an overview of Moreno's significant theoretical advancements in psychodrama.
