Abstract

Green metrics at four levels of analysis are determined for various synthesis plans for dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) covering material efficiency, environmental impact, safety-hazard impact, and energy input demands to identify the greenest plan available to make this important dehydrating reagent. Chlorinebased routes using phosgene chemistry are juxtaposed against non-chlorine-based routes.
