Abstract

This monograph provides the following data on the plant drug Rhizoma Coptidis: pharmacopoeia; publication first cited in; official drugs (Coptis chinensis, C. deltoidea and C. teeta); origin (middle and southern China, northern India and Japan); drug description; pretreatment of the raw drug; effects and indications according to traditional Chinese medicine; medicinal use (for the treatment of gastroenteritis, diarrhoea, vomiting, icterus, fever, insomnia, haematemesis, nose bleeding, conjunctivitis, toothache, carbuncle and abscess, indigestion diabetes and eczema); main components (including chemical formulae of the main compounds); pharmacology; toxicology; TLC fingerprint analysis; and HPLC fingerprint analysis.
