Abstract

Applying artificial intelligence (AI) to traffic management has been widely used to improve the efficiency of the transport system. In Vietnam, the application of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) as one of the methods of applying AI to replace Manual Toll Collection (MTC) has been implemented in mixed traffic flow in recent years. However, the role of ETC lane allocation, as well as the impact of traffic composition on the efficiency of the ETC system, have not been quantified. In addition, the influence of the ETC system on the performance of the traffic flow, especially the influence of ETC lane allocation in motorcycle-dominated traffic flow has not been given due attention yet. This paper analyzes these above issues by conducting simulation models. The analysis is applied to a specific case in Binh Duong in order to propose suggestions to improve the efficiency of the transport system.
