Abstract

With the development of the Internet and digital technology, the application of virtual reality (VR) in the field of cultural heritage digitization has received more attention. The Confucian Ceremony is a famous intangible cultural heritage in China, and as one of its components, the Confucian music reflects the requirements of cultivating oneself and establishing virtue in Confucian culture. The expression of Confucian music and related musical instruments in a VR can provide a new experience with a high sense of immersion and play a role in spreading the knowledge of Confucian music. In this study, a scheme to experience and play the Confucian musical instruments in VR environment is implemented. Based on Unity and HTC Vive for technical implementation and realize its performance of chimes in the VR environment, so that users can experience the performance of chimes in an immersive VR environment. The main innovations of this study are: 1.The realization of playing chimes in a virtual reality environment. There are many studies on the digital performance of other traditional musical instruments, such as bells and yangqin, but there is no precedent for chimes. 2.The design of a Confucian music virtual reality experience system. The system will enable users to experience the music in a more participatory and interactive way based on user research.
