Abstract. A laser Doppler velocimeter and a resistance thermometerwere used to study velocity and temperature statistics in a stronglyheated turbulent two-dimensional channel flow, with the wall temperatureup to 700 ~ and a Reynolds number of 14,000. Normalizedmean velocity and mean temperature profiles were not significantlyaffected by the wall heating. Turbulent intensities of temperaturefluctuation were also insensitive to the heat flux. However, turbulentintensities of velocity fluctuation were suppressed in the region awayfrom the wall, whereas those near the wall were not changed noticeablyby the wall heating. This phenomenon was explained by thebalance of three parameters: turbulent production, viscous dissipation and intermittency.
