Abstract

Sufficient anaesthesia is a prerequisite for any intervention using laboratory animals for scientific purposes. In most countries there are strict regulations and laws for the use and handling of laboratory animals. Thus, in several countries, e.g. in Germany, it is necessary that general anaesthesia is performed by a veterinarian. This has to be checked with the local authority. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
