Abstract

Pulmonary comorbidities can complicate the management of heart failure, and the primary care provider must understand the management of underlying pulmonary disease to effectively manage cardiopulmonary symptoms. This chapter will outline the complexities of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) by presenting definitions, risk factors, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and pharmacological and nonpharmacological management. A case study of a heart failure patient with complex pulmonary disease will be presented at the conclusion.
