Abstract

In the subject of aerospace health informatics practice, the concept of health informatics and theory of information systems are the underlying foundation for its core competency practice. Conceptually, the core competency of health informatics is critical in developing the skills and specialities that recognise the depth of expertise and knowledge in digital health. To date, scholarly research within the health informatics core competency remains of unique discussions in the line work of health professionals, owing to the field that are inherently too complex to be addressed by single disciplines. Therefore, in understanding the advances of its core competency, underlying theory necessitating pursuing multifaceted fields can only be resolved from the vantage point of transdisciplinarity. Theoretically, health informatics is seen as a transdisciplinary within the information systems field that integrates the computer sciences and its informatics principles within health and medical sciences in a digital health context and transcends their traditional boundaries. The latest general health informatics competency evaluation was established in February 2022 by the distinguished body of digital health in Australia; the Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH). This AIDH health informatics new competency framework encompasses the dynamic nature of digital health and the challenges and opportunities it presents. Since the health informatics competency does not have a unitary framework in terms of a uniform set of concepts and theories, which represents multiple, diverse research directions and thus various inquiry approaches that consist of its factors: concept and its theory, exploratory, empirical, and the future point of view. On that account, availing oneself of the AIDH health informatics new competency framework, this chapter aimed to explore the competency by utilising the grounded theory to elaborate potential factors between the general medicine science and the aerospace medicine, which departing from what the general medicine science is primarily concerned. This chapter provides an important perspective of its conceptual and theoretical that empirical examines the relationship between the former and latter that determines the aerospace health informatics core competency from information systems’ theory angle. The applicable potential competencies in relation to the aerospace health informatics from this chapter describes an illustration of the abovementioned relationship toward its core competency standpoint of the potential future aerospace health informatics practice.
