We present a short survey and exposition of some of the important aspects of Turkish that have proved to be interesting and challenging for natural language and speech processing. Most of the challenges stem from the complex morphology of Turkish and how morphology interacts with syntax. Finally we provide a short overview of the major tools and resources developed for Turkish over the last two decades.
