Abstract
This article analyses the performance of the baseball team Oakland Athletics. Knowing he would lose power-hitting free-agent SS Miguel Tejada, G.M. Billy Beane went into the offseason deter mined to upgrade the team's outfield. But the moves he made produce as many questions as answers. LF Bobby Kielty's numbers in 2003 were no better than those of incumbent Eric Byrnes. Catcher Damian Miller draws positive response for his quick release and accurate arm, and he's very good at blocking balls.
