Abstract

ConstructivismConstructivism is adopted as the twenty-first century educationEducation modelModel because it rests on stimulating thinkingThinking development. ConstructivistPractice, constructivist practicePractice, however, is surrounded by controversies that center around such issues as the effectiveness of different techniques on learningLearning different areas or skillsSkill, the learningLearning environmentEnvironment, and theStudent student–teacherTeacher relationship. The medium of instructionInstruction is never brought into focus as an essential component of constructivistPractice, constructivist practicePractice. This study draws attention to the need to accord the learner tongue importance in this practicePractice showing that a constructivist classroomClassroom cultureCulture can only be sustained when the medium of instructionInstruction is not foreign to the learner. A modelModel of proper applications of constructivist principles is also provided to address ambiguities surrounding the concept of constructivismConstructivism as an educational practicePractice.
