Abstract

This paper is for investigating speech enhancement in modulation. We want to discover how important the modulation domain is for spectral subtraction compared to the acoustic domain. We use a new technique based on spectral subtraction in the modulation domain to remove noise from temporal modulation envelopes. Furthermore, we used coherent demodulation based on the spectral center of Gravity approach, which assures that modulators are free of distortion. The experiment findings of various acoustic noises non-stationary suggest that our proposed approach can enhance speech intelligibility compared to other existing methods in the temporal domain.
