Abstract

One of the troubling issues the world presently confronting is the global warming.It is mainly due to the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere by human activities. During the cement production, a huge amount of CO2 is emitted and released into the atmosphere and in addition to that massive amount of fly ash is produced which is generally a waste product. As cement is primary binding material, our effort in this paper is to find out the best possible percentage of cement replacement with fly ash and also supplementing with microorganisms such as bacillus subtilis in order to strengthen the mechanical performance of concrete. The main aim of this paper is to strengthen the concrete with the partial replacement of cement by fly ash enriched with bacteria. From previous researches and various works of literature, we came to a conclusion of using Bacillus Subtilis with a cell concentration of 105 cells per 100 ml of bacterial solution. Bacillus is prepared and grown under favorable conditions before using. The mix proportion adopted is M40 for preparing the concrete mix. The samples were tested at different ages i.e. 7d, 14d, 28d, and 60d. It was seen that the strength of concrete increases considerably after using fly ash enriched with Bacillus Subtilis.
