Abstract

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) remain a common public health problem with the prevalence of someSTDs such as lymphogranulomavenereumand syphilis on the rise. The anorectum is particularly susceptible to STDs. The anorectalmucosa is easily disruptedduring anoreceptive intercourse allowing for the easy transmission of pathogens. In addition, multiple organisms are often present in patients with anorectal STDs and determining which pathogens are causing symptoms may be challenging.
