Liposuction is currently the most commonly performed aesthetic surgical procedure in the world. Friction burns are a common problem faced by surgeons undertaking liposuction. With the advent of new technology such as laser- and ultrasound-assisted liposuction, the incidence of burns has also increased due to direct ultrasonic or laser tip contact with skin. While many cannula port-site protectors are available commercially, they carry the drawbacks of cost. We review other methods employed by surgeons to prevent skin burns in liposuction and describe our inexpensive method for cannula port-site protection in this chapter.
