“Danxia” defines an exogenetic landscape type developed on continental red terrigenous sedimentary beds. It is characterized by a particular rock sequence, tectonic background, climatic conditions, erosional processes, and suite of landforms. While there are some other locations in the world that bear similar visual, geological, and geomorphological properties with Danxia, none are as well-defined, complete, or extensive as the Danxia landscapes of China.
