Abstract

Analytical techniques are the methods used in the isolation, identification and quantification of chemical substances. They are also referred to as drug assays and are useful from drug development to clinical use of the drugs. They can be divided into qualitative and quantitative techniques. While sophisticated instrumentation makes advanced quantitative techniques possible, qualitative techniques are still used to detect the presence of drugs in various specimens. The following chapter describes some of the commonly used quantitative and qualitative assays for commonly used drugs. A brief description for sample preparation is also provided as the accuracy is heavily dependent on the proper sample preparation.
