Abstract

The traces the early sphere of experience leaves on the individual’s physical and psychosocial development last a lifetime. This actuality creates special responsibilities for the professions that attend women and infants during pregnancy, birth, and the immediate postnatal period and requires reevaluation on their part. The current mainstream birth culture does not sufficiently address this issue. This article illustrates the change that is required in the understanding of obstetric care and infers the paradigm of an “attachment guided Birth Culture.”.
