Abstract

Noninvasive ventilation failure can occur at any time during treatment. To minimize the risk of immediate and early failure, patients should be carefully selected to ensure they will tolerate therapy, and clinical parameters should be monitored for signs of improvement. New scores have been developed to assist in predicting failure late in treatment, but require additional studies for validation.
