Abstract

The influences of different approaches to palynological terminology are discussed and identified as the main obstacle to progress in achieving an improved terminology. The findings of an I.C.P. Terminology Working Group questionnaire on approaches to terminology are considered and the observation is made that in general the broadest and simplest definitions, here called low level definitions, provide the most useful terms and enable the most effective communication. © 1983, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
