Abstract

Considering the role which the teacher of physical education plays in order to generate patterns of physical activity in school students, this study describes how the students perceive their physical education teacher. A total of 1.311 students from the 5th and 7th grade of elementary school and the 1st and 3rd grade of secondary school, in public schools and subsidized private schools from to the Araucanía Region, Chile, have been surveyed. The results indicate that the students have a positive image of their physical education teachers. They believe that the teachers have a lot of knowledge and pass on happiness. The students also consider the teachers to be strict and say that they often raise their voice. Significant differences were found when analysing the data according to gender, type of school and grade of the students.
